Seis de nosotros de la Liverpool Hope University en el Reino Unido, vinimos en un proyecto de voluntariado a Arequipa, Perú durante 3 semanas. ¡Fue una experiencia inolvidable, realmente una experiencia única en la vida!
Yo, personalmente, me quedé solo por 2 semanas, pero la experiencia que tuve fue increíble, especialmente trabajando en el colegio San Juan Apóstol. Al principio estaba un poco indecisa y tal vez tímida, ya que no soy maestra y no estaba segura de cómo estar con los niños, sin embargo, en la clase en la que estaba, ¡las 35 niñas de nueve años eran geniales!
Aunque yo no enseñaba como tal, ayudar a la señorita Delcy en el aula fue un verdadero regalo. Superé mi timidez al ver que las chicas solo necesitaban ser amadas y recibir un poco de atención. Estaba tan feliz de poder ayudar en mi pequeña manera, especialmente sentándome con aquellas que tenían más dificultades para comprender las matemáticas e intentando inventar formas de ayudarlas más. ¡Al final, sentí que recibí más de las chicas de lo que yo pude dar!
La mayor diversión de todas fue cuando decoramos las camisetas blancas que había traído y ver a las chicas muy entusiasmadas y emocionadas. Realmente se divirtieron. El aula aterrizó en el caos con pintura por todo el lugar, pero valió la pena al ver sus caras radiantes sosteniendo sus coloridas camisetas. Luego lograron despejar el aula muy rápidamente también.
Por las tardes, ayudamos a pintar las paredes de la escuela. Fue difícil dejar el aula y a las niñas, pero sentí que al pintar estaba ayudando a construir la belleza del colegio para que los niños pudieran estudiar en un lugar hermoso.
Fue realmente emotivo irse ya que las chicas realmente me robaron el corazón. Permanecerán conmigo siempre y continuaré orando por ellas y por todos en el colegio, ¡por todas las cosas maravillosas que Solidaridad en Marcha hace por estas personas!

Six of us from Liverpool Hope University in the UK came on a volunteering project to Peru, Arequipa for 3 weeks. It was an unforgettable experience, truly an experience of a lifetime!
I, personally, only stayed for 2 weeks but the experience I had was amazing, especially working in the school, San Juan Apostol. At first I was a bit hesitant and perhaps shy as I’m not a teacher and I wasn’t sure how to be with the children, however, the class I was in, 35 nine year old girls were great!
Even though I didn’t do any teaching as such, just helping Miss Delcy in the classroom was a real gift. I overcame my shyness as I could see that the girls just needed to be loved and receive a bit of attention. I was so happy to be able to help in my small way, especially sitting with those who had more difficulties in understanding the maths and trying to invent ways to help them more. In the end, I felt that I received more from the girls than what I was able to give!
The greatest fun of all was when we decorated white t-shirts that I had brought and to see the girls so enthusiastic and emotional about it. They truly had fun. The classroom landed up in chaos with paint all over the place but to see their radiant faces holding up their colourful t-shirts was worth it! And then they managed to clear up the classroom very quickly too!
In the afternoons, we helped to paint the walls of the school. It was difficult to leave the classroom and the girls but I felt that in painting I was helping in building the beauty of the school so that the children could study in a beautiful place.
It was really emotional to leave as the girls really stole my heart. They will remain with me always and I will continue to pray for them and for all at the school, for all the wonderful things that Solidaridad en Marcha does for these people!!
